Lumintop W1 hybrid COB + LEP
The Lumintop W1 is another hybrid flashlight that combines COB and LEP technology, powered by a single 18650 battery. This model stands out in the market, especially since Lumintop has been a leader in producing hybrid flashlights. The W1 offers multiple lighting options, including white COB, LEP, and red light, all controlled by a single e-switch. However, the user interface (UI) can be complex, and while it is unique, it may take some time for users to adapt to it.
The W1 is compact and lightweight, making it nice and comfortable to hold. It features a USB-C charging port, but without a protective cover, which raises concerns about dirt and water ingress. The build quality is generally good, with no sharp edges or defects.
The LEP module is positioned in the center, surrounded by the COB, which produces a wide beam suitable for close distances but lacks brightness for longer-range use. The flashlight does not have a lockout mode, which is a drawback for those looking to carry it as an everyday carry (EDC) option.
While the W1 can reach over 700 meters, its performance may not meet the expectations for an EDC flashlight, particularly in terms of beam distance.
The onboard charging takes approximately 3 hours and 40 minutes, and the battery level indicator provides basic information about the charge status. Overall, the W1 has potential as a hybrid light, but it requires some improvements to fully meet user needs and expectations. The question remains whether Lumintop will address these issues in future models or continue to develop new designs.
Performance
Lumen
The measurements were taken manually at turn on and 30 seconds. The 10-minute numbers are taken from the runtime graph.
Mode | Specified output | Turn on | 30 sec. | 10 min. |
---|---|---|---|---|
COB:Low | 100 lm | 102 lm | 102 lm | 102 lm |
COB: High | 400 lm | 445 lm | 437 lm | 293 lm |
LEP | 300 lm | 295 lm | 291 lm | 164 lm |
COB+LEP | 600 lm | 775 lm | 757 lm | 377 lm |
Runtime
Runtime tests were conducted in my 50cm homemade integrating sphere, paired with the Extech SDL400 data logging Lux Meter. Each runtime is based on the manual measurements taken during the Lumen measurement. Ambient temperatures are included from the moment the runtime test started.
Mode | Specified runtime | Runtime (ANSI FL1) | Time till shut off* |
---|---|---|---|
COB: Eco | 100h | – | – |
COB: Low (21.2 °C) | 10h | 11h 18min | 11h 18min |
COB: High 20.6 °C) | 3h 05min | 3h 45min | 3h 45min |
LEP 20.0 °C | 2h 03min | 2h 09min | 2h 09min |
COB+LEP combo 17.0 °C | 1h 33min | 1h 36min | 1h 36min |

Throw measurements
Measurements were taken indoors at 5 meters with a Hagner E4-X Lux Meter. The measurements were taken 30 seconds after turn on.
