Weltool W2 : world’s first

It’s quite exciting to see Weltool implementing this new SMD LEP technology, which isn’t surprising since they were one of the first companies to implement LEP technology in flashlights and have produced some of the best LEP flashlights in class. Weltool has been one of the few companies to adapt so quickly to new flashlight technologies, starting with the W3 back in 2017. However, this comes at a cost, with average prices around $200 per unit, and like all new technologies, it will take time to improve. The biggest difference is the lack of any LEP module – instead it has a normal-looking MCPCB with an SMD chip, making this one of the first SMD LEP flashlights on the planet.

The beam quality isn’t as good as an LED flashlight, with a pretty green spill and relatively purple/blue center that looks a bit like UV – something they can possibly improve in the future. The bezel can be removed to access the MCPCB with SMD LEP, though this may void the warranty, and the convex lens isn’t protected so care must be taken not to damage it. The package includes the Weltool MC1S single-bay charger and a Weltool INR14-06P 14500 battery with 650mAh capacity. The charger accepts multiple battery types but showed a relatively high 4.7-watt charging rate for the small 14500 battery, completing the charge in 55 minutes. Despite being AA-sized, the W2 does not work on AA batteries and will only blink a few times before turning off.

The measurements were taken manually at turn on and 30 seconds. The 10-minute numbers are taken from the runtime graph.
